​Is the governing coalition falling apart? Alberto Fernández is the new De la Rúa?

In our last market Brief, we pointed out that the harsh political defeat of “Frente de Todos” (FdT), in last Sunday´s primaries represented a severe blow in the relationship between the president (AF) and the vice-president (CFK).CFK was hardly able to hide her irritation after the primaries, allegedly blaming AF for the electoral defeat. The combination of Guzman´s fiscal adjustment, in an electoral year, AF's latest missteps, such as the recent scandal of the first lady’s birthday celebration during a lockout, or AF's refusal to change his cabinet (the ministers who don’t function, according to CFK), earned him the ire of CFK. Recall that AF even rejected CFK´s request that Santiago Cafiero should run in place of the previously little known Victoria Toloza Paz in the province of Buenos Aires. AF was said to fear that CFK´s offer was a Trojan horse, with the underlying intention to press later to put a person of her liking as Chief of Cabinet, and therefore have more of a say in the executive, or at least to be better informed of its doings.Contrary to CFK's aspiration, AF started the week not with a change in the cabinet, but with several meetings confirming his current cabinet and letting him be seen in public with the first lady. With this “rebellion” of AF in mind, this Wednesday, most of the key Kirchnerist members in the executive and public enterprises presented their resignation for the consideration of the President.
