Judge dictates coercive measures against those accused in the Anti-Pulp Operation

Last night, Judge José Alejandro Vargas ordered the preventive detention of seven of the eleven defendants in the Anti-Pulpo Operation, including Alexis Medina Sánchez who is the brother of former President Danilo Medina Sánchez. Regarding the remaining defendants, the judge ordered the release with periodic presentation for one of them and house arrest under surveillance for the other three. The case was declared complex. The judge emphasized that the decision was not the result of a political persecution noting that the case was about "a family that betrayed the sentimental weakness of the President of the Republic for his brother." Alexis Medina and Francisco Pagan’s lawyer said that he will appeal the judge's decision.
