Yesterday, Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes placed former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) under house arrest. According to Moraes, the decision was made because Bolsonaro used the social media accounts of his allies to disseminate messages that “clearly encouraged and incited attacks on the STF and openly supported foreign intervention in Brazil’s Judiciary,” during the protests held on Sunday, August 3. The opposition is threatening to obstruct votes in the Senate in an effort to pressure Senate President Davi Alcolumbre to initiate impeachment proceedings against Justice Alexandre de Moraes. Also yesterday, Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, confirmed that Brazil will bring the tariff issue to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
