Kazakhstan seeks trade with the Taliban

On December 25 a Kazakh trade delegation visited Kabul. The visit on Christmas Day was nothing unusual as both countries are Muslim. The delegates negotiated on trade routes and political cooperation, according to the Taliban. There is a bid to establish a joint chamber of commerce. They discussed direct flights between countries.The delegation brought 500 kg of aid with them. That is a drop in the ocean considering 50% of Afghans are malnourished. In October 2021 Kazakhstan said it would provide 500 tons of flour and other aid, as well as the QazVac vaccine. It is unclear whether this aid has been delivered. The Kazakh Embassy has functioned as normal throughout the Taliban takeover. The Kazakh Trade Minister visited Kabul. Afghanistan does not have much money to buy Kazakh exports. The Kazakhs see the country as a transit route for trading with Pakistan and Iran.Despite the cordiality, Kazakhstan has not indicated it is going to recognize the Taliban. So far the Taliban seem to find that acceptable.
