Kazakhstan struggling to contain coronavirus

On March 29 Kazakhstan ordered lockdown of its fifth city Temirtau which is the location of a steel plant run by Arcelor Mittal. The country has 265 cases. Nur Sultan City, Almaty, Shymkent and Karaganda are already locked down. On March 29 it was announced that the country would use its National Fund to maintain the economy. The fact that the economic news came on a Sunday likely demonstrates how urgent the situation is. The country is hugely dependent on hydrocarbon exports and trade with China. Coronavirus has hit the economy of Kazakhstan harder than any other country in the region. It will spend USD 10 billion on a stimulus package. USD 4 billion of this is coming from the National Fund.
