Yesterday's revelations of attempts to change votes to avoid the president's impeachment on the part of dissident members of the Fuerza Popular party has all but decided that he will be ousted tomorrow. During a press conference, the spokesman for Fuerza Popular Daniel Salaverry accompanied by other party members revealed videos secretly taped by a congressman while being offered public works for his region, preferential access to the president ministers and other perks in exchange for his vote against the impeachment. Prime Minister Mecedes Araoz and three other ministers hastily organized an TV appearance to deny charges that they or the president were involved in this scheme, arguing that they constantly discussed the execution of public projects with members of Congress in hundreds of meetings at their ministries, and that the accuser congressman was just colloquially bragging. However, the presence of Kenji Fujimori and Kuczynski’s lawyer Alberto Borea during the taped meeting added credibility to the accusation of vote-buying. Three congressmen who resigned from Kuczynski's party in protest for the president's pardon of the jailed ex-president Alberto Fujimori and Jorge del Castillo, a legislator belonging to APRA that voted against the impeachment attempt last December, have announced that they will vote to oust the president. It is thought that others will follow suit.
