Kyrgyzstan elects interim president

On November 4 Talant Mantyov was elected Speaker of Parliament. The Speaker succeeds the president when a vacancy arises. President Japarov took power only two weeks ago. He is prime minister as well as president at the same time! An election is due on 10 January 2021 and Japarov is running. Japarov must resign as president to run. Therefore Mantyov will be president in the interim. The previous speaker was a supporter of Jeenbekov who resigned the presidency due protests. Japarov has said he will resign in December 2020.The country is in the throes of an economic crisis. Japarov is keen to expand the power of the presidency.The Kyrgyz Foreign Minister flew to Moscow on October 29 hoping for high level meetings. But no one met him. Was this a deliberate snub?
