Lithuania blocks some Russian goods going to Kaliningrad

On June 20 Lithuania said it will not allow certain cargo to go by train through its territory to Kaliningrad which is a Russian exclave. Moscow has vowed that there will be repercussions. Lithuania said it is abiding by European Union sanctions. The EU supports Lithuania's stance. Many goods are still being allowed to travel through Lithuania to Kaliningrad as are people. People in Kaliningrad are worried because almost all their food comes via Lithuania. However, food is still allowed to be transported by rail through Lithuania. The banned goods include construction materials, coal, advanced tech and metals. On June 21 the Head of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev visited Kaliningrad to reassure people that the government will support them. Russia is not allowed to fly over EU airspace. Russian ships can sail to Kaliningrad. Russia claims that Lithuania's actions are against international law. Lithuania is a former Soviet republic. 25% of its citizens are ethnically Russian. They are a majority in some towns. Lithuania is very worried that Russia will claim some of its land.
