President Lula returned last weekend from a trip to Japan. He traveled with several members of Congress, including Speaker of the House Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB) and Senate President Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP). Lula pledged to improve relations with Congress by holding more meetings with political leaders. Today, House Speaker Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB) will meet with party leaders to discuss the progress of the bill that grants amnesty to those involved in the January 8 events. The likely outcome is that Motta will decide to create a Special Committee to examine the bill, which could please both the government and the opposition. The Senate’s Economic Affairs Committee may vote today on a bill to establish tariff and environmental reciprocity in trade with other countries.
