Yesterday, President Lula signed into law the bill addressing the reinstatement of payroll taxes. There were five vetoes, most of them related to provisions that established Non-Tax Credit Collection and Negotiation Centers. President Lula has scheduled a meeting for this afternoon with the heads of the other branches of government to discuss the country’s wildfire situation. Today marks the start of the first part of the Central Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) meeting to decide on the basic interest (Selic) rate. The decision will be announced tomorrow, and the expected outcome is an increase to 10.75% per year.
