President Lula (PT) has called a meeting with his cabinet for Tuesday (August 26) to align the government’s position on the 50% tariff hike imposed by the United States on Brazilian exports and to discuss the proposed regulation of social media platforms and technology companies. Last week, the government faced a setback in the selection of the two top positions of the CPMI: president and rapporteur. Although the government holds a majority in the CPMI, the committee could pose challenges to the administration by focusing its investigations on the current government. This week, the Lower House may make progress on the analysis of the Immunities Amendment (PEC das Prerrogativas).
