Moldova strips president-elect of security service control

On December 4 Parliament passed a law stating that the incoming President Maia Sandu will have no authority over the intelligence services. Instead Parliament will control these services. It is suspected that the security services are sympathetic to Russia. The Socialist Party (which is pro-Russian) is the party that pushed this through. The party voted to accord special status to the Russian language.Miss Sandu will take office on December 23. Sandu's party is the Action and Solidarity Party. It is pro-EU.
