Sandu wins Moldovan presidency

On November 16 statistics from the Election Commission showed that Maia Sandu has won the presidential election with 57% of the vote. Her opponent was President Igor Dodon. 99.6% of the votes have been counted. An official announcement of the results will be made on November 20. The Constitutional Court must then certify the result. Dodon has not conceded. He might be hoping that judges - some of whom he appointed - will overturn the result. Russia does not want to 'lose' Moldova (which is a former USSR country) to the EU. Sandu is an avowed pro-European. Sandu ran against Dodon in 2016. Dodon won but was accused by Sandu of major cheating.
