MTS starts pilot 5G network in Moscow

On March 5 Russia's main cellphone carrier began the scheme. It has started 14 hotspots in the city center around tourist attractions and the financial district.Those taking part in the pilot scheme are smartphone owners. They will get ultra HD videos and cloud gaming. Technicians are striving to upgrade the 5G test infrastructure. Users are unable to connect to the fifth generation network without help. Participants will be texted and offered the chance to connect based on an analysis of their movements and data usage. MTS says this is scientific research. It is also market research!In 2019 MTS inked a 5G development deal with Huawei. The Chinese company has been blacklisted in the USA.Ericsson in partnership with Tele2 opened the first 5G zone in Russia in 2019. Russia intends to have 5G functioning in the 10 biggest cities in 2024.
