NATO rejects Russian demands and asks for diplomacy

On January 6 NATO said it would not rule out Ukraine and Georgia being admitted nor would it remove troops and weaponry from countries that joined NATO since 1999.NATO says there are up to 147,000 Russian troops near the Ukrainian Border. But "near" in this case can mean hundreds kilometers away. Russia has said it is carrying out military drills as it does routinely. If Russia is planning to attack, why has it not done so already? The claim that Russia is planning a war is becoming less credible. By mid March the thaw will mean many areas as so muddy that they are impassable. The US Secretary of State echoed the sentiments of the NATO Secretary-General. They underscored their belief in Ukraine's territorial integrity. They have also sent letters to Moscow but not revealed the content.Macedonia joined NATO in 2020. That upsets Russia, and yet more countries could join.Washington DC said that negotiations the are only way forward. But the US is unwilling to give Russia what it wants. If the US did this then it would undermine European faith in the United States. NATO suggested to Russia more transparency on troops deployments and drills. This will lead to a detente. NATO asks for Russia to act in good faith.Putin is dead against Ukraine's ever joining NATO. But he achieved this goal in 2014. As long as Crimea is under Russian rule against Ukraine's wishes NATO will not allow Ukraine to join. Because if Ukraine were admitted to NATO it would trigger World War Three as Ukraine would demand that NATO fight against the invader: Russia.
