Turkey could be experiencing a huge Covid-19 outbreak, about which the government policy seems to be “willful neglect”. Ankara’s objective remains to avoid any action that might harm the tourism season, but the policy could have devastating reverberations on the economy in winter months.
As President Erdogan and AKP steadily lose support in the polls, the top of the party began showing cracks, too, with unease about Erdogan’s economic policies beginning to trickle to public statements of criticism. No mass defections to the opposition camp are in the cards, but AKP might have lost its motivation to win elections.
