Consumer prices rose by 2.5% in August, broadly in line with expectations, with the 12-month rate declining sharply as anticipated to 52%, down from 61.8% in July, on the back of powerful base effects. Domestic-PPI inflation was 1.7%, m/m, which reduced the 12-month rate to 35.8% from 41.4% a month earlier (Graph 1; Table 1).
