Nord Stream 2 construction hampered by technical difficulties

Russia is determined to complete the undersea gas pipeline to Germany in 2021. US sanctions have meant that most suitable ships cannot be hired for this.A Russian nuclear powered ship due to take part in the construction cannot participate in the project due to suffering damage. It needs repairs. Sevmorput is sailing to St Petersburg at 10 knots. It will take weeks to reach port. There have been propeller problems. Environmentalists are opposed to nuclear ships sailing so close to the shore. There are only 130 km of the pipeline left to build. But this is a particularly problematic area in which to build.Fortuna is a Russian vessel laying the pipeline. There are doubts about its suitability. The other ship doing this is also Russian: Akademik Cherskiy which is owned by Gazprom.
