October Inflation: Broadly As Expected

October CPI inflation came in at 1.9%, broadly as expected, which meant a slight increase in the 12-month rate to 9% from 8.9% in September. There are also no major surprises in terms of sub-components, like the housing category (reflecting energy hikes) and textiles (for seasonal reasons) contributing the most, and food prices making a slightly lower contribution than last year, but coming in broadly in line with seasonal averages.Meanwhile, the 12-month core inflation rate (the I-index) also appears to be easing, thanks to lira weakness getting out of the way (Table 1; Graphs 1-3).
