President Erdogan is finally leading the charge to write a new constitution, which will incidentally grant him the right to run a third time. Yet, he is facing massive obstacles, which have not lessened despite PKK’s decision to disband. Erdogan and his ally Bahceli still don’t seem to grasp that painful concessions on executive powers will be needed to cut a deal with the opposition.
As Erdogan broadens his offensive against Ekrem Imamoglu and the Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul, CHP chairman Ozel is also on the counter offensive targeting Mehmet Simsek’s policies and pressuring the government for mid-year minimum wage and pension hikes, which will significantly impair austerity efforts.
