On Victory Day Putin says Ukraine War is like WW II

On May 9 Putin addressed a crowd in Moscow at the annual commemoration for the end of World War II. Putin denounced Western nations for twisting the history of WW II and for causing conflicts. He railed against Western neo-imperialism and its support for what he termed "neo-Nazism". Putin claimed that the Ukraine War is essentially the same anti-fascist struggle as WW II. 9,000 troops and 61 assets were displayed in the parade. That is smaller than pre-war levels. Russia was delighted to receive the presidents of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Belarus. All six countries are members of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Armenia refused to send a high level representative to the parade despite being, in theory, a Russian ally. Victory Day parades were cancelled in Russian cities near the Ukrainian Border due to fear of Ukrainian attacks.
