Orbán resigned from parliament but wants to remain president of Fidesz

Outgoing PM Orbán gave back his parliamentary mandate, which he obtained as No. 1 on Fidesz's party list, yesterday. This means that for the first time since 1990, Mr. Orbán will not be present as a representative in the National Assembly. Fidesz will have the right to nominate another representative to replace him in parliament.Reacting to this decision, Tisza head Mr. Magyar called Mr. Orbán a 'brave' street fighter, who is still unable to take responsibility. This remark came after two years of Mr. Orbán systematically refusing to stand up for a televised debate with his opponent.Mr. Orbán is rumoured to travel to the US for the upcoming football (soccer) World Cup there, in June-July, and also to visit his eldest daughter who lives there.Yesterday, Mr. Magyar posted a short video statement, in which he said he had exact information that NAV, the tax authority, had blocked some large money transfers out of the country, based on banks reporting suspicion of money laundering. He linked those transfers to a specific government minister's circles. Magyar accused 'oligarchs around Orbán' of transferring tens of billions of forints of money out of the country, to the US, the UAE, Uruguay and other remote countries. He repeatedly called upon the heads of the police and of the tax authorities as well as the Prosecutor General to 'arrest the criminals who have caused damage to the Hungarian people worth thousands of billions of forints', and not to let them escape to countries with which Hungary does not have bilateral extradition agreements.The first session of the new parliament is summoned by President Sulyok for May 9, and Mr. Magyar may be approved as Prime Minister alr...
