Pelosi in Armenia

On September 18 the Speak of the US House of Representatives visited Armenia. Speaker Pelosi was there to commemorate the Armenian Genocide. She condemned Azerbaijan for what she called illegal attacks on Armenia. Azerbaijan is a close ally of Turkey. Armenia blames Turkey for the genocide of 1915-1919. In 2021 Biden recognized the Armenian Genocide.  The visit comes days after a sudden upsurge in fighting against Azerbaijan led to the death of a total of 150 soldiers between the two sides. Pelosi said the US should support Armenia as a democracy. There is a small but influential Armenian-American community. Pelosi is the most senior US politician to ever visit Armenia. The Kremlin said it welcomes any attempt to bring peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
