First exit polls were released a few hours ago and at 9pm will be released the first quick count. The message is the Keiko Fujimori form Fuerza Popular moves to the second round with about 16% of the vote. However, the second place is tied between Rafael López Aliaga from right-wing Renovation Popular; Roberto Sánchez from leftwing Juntos por el Peru; Jorge Nieto from center Buen Gobierno; and Ricardo Belomont from left-wing Obras.Unfortunately, several polling stations in Lima couldn't open because the logistic provider that had to distribute the ballots and other electoral material failed. Jurado Nacional de Elecciones (JNE, the electoral tribunal) has indicated that these polling stations will open tomorrow to enable voters to cast their votes. Clearly, this additional vote may benefit Lopez de Aliaga and Jorge Nieto that have a large share of the Lima vote. Exit polls on the Senate and Congress indicates that Fuerza Popular, Renovation Popular and Buen Gobierno may have the close to two thirds of the vote in both chambers. This means that together they would be able to pass some economic and political reforms. Will keep you posted on more developments tomorrow.Alfredo Thorne
