Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzén and his Cabinet were in Congress this morning requesting the rejection to the no confidence vote. In his speech said that his priorities were the economic recovery and internal security. Although President Boluarte is under scrutiny on an apparent failure to declare the acquisition of about 5 Rolex watches, and the transfers of large amounts of money into her personal accounts, we believe that Congress would reject the no confidence vote. Boluarte is due to make her deposition at the Attorney General Office on April 5th and explain how she acquired those expensive watches, and in a Presidential speech over the weekend she explained the source of those bank transfers. Being the president of Club Departamental Apurímac, she had been receiving the contributions of the club affiliates and the rent of their property. But more fundamentally, the approval of Adrianzén Cabinet has been secured by the political concessions granted to the different Congress’ political groups. For once, he reshuffled the Cabinet early in the week and accommodate the demands from political groups. Of the six new members, three were party members from political groups in Congress; one, the Interior Minister, Victor Torres, was facing an impeachment in Congress and Adrianzén agreed to sack him; and the other two were president Boluarte’s close allies. In addition, the government approved a PEN50 million budget appropriation to finance Congress’ personnel salary increases. Against this backdrop, we believe that the odds are that Congress would vote in favor of Adrianzén's Cabinet.
