Peru's President Jerí could face impeachment

Today at 2pm, Lima time, caretaker president José Jerí will attend Congress' Fiscalization Commission. On Sunday 11th Latina TV aired a video of president Jeri with a hood covering his face and at the middle of the night on December 26th entering a store of a Chinese entrepreneur Zhihua Yang a contractor of the government. Since then several journalist have inquiried Jerí for the reasons of a strange visit and that was not registered in his official agenda. Although the truth is not fully known, he has been changing his albi to the point that nobody knows what he was doing with Mr. Yang. In addition, it has been found that he has had this connection with chinese enterpreuners since he was in Congress' Energy and Mining and then the Budget Commissions. Most presumed that he has been involved in public works embezzlement. There are at least three different motions in Congress calling for his impeachment and Ministerio Publico, Fiscalia de la Nacion (MPFN) has opened an investigation. Still neither of the motions has gathered the 33 signatures to present the motion in Congress. Congress' acting president, Fernando Rospigliosi, from Fuerza Popular party led by Ms. Keiko Fujimori, had said that an impeachment is not desirable, although Congress majority has to decide. Fortunately for Jeri, Congress is in recess and for the impeachment to proceed, Congress needs to call an extraordinary session. Finally, there is the discussion of how to proceed.
