Poland bans Ukrainian grain and ends arms supplies

On September 21 Poland made the announcement due to a row. Poland said it has given Ukraine 320 tanks and 14 fighter jets (all Soviet era). Overall it has donated a third of its military assets. Poland said it must now concentrate on its own defense. What it has donated to Ukraine is being replaced with modern Western-made arms. 60 Krab artillery weapons were already promised to Ukraine and will be delivered, but no new pledges will be made. On September 19 Poland summoned the Ukrainian Ambassador because of what Zelensky said when addressing the UN. Zelensky said that some in Europe were engaging in ''a political theater making a thriller from grain.'' Poland has been Ukraine's staunchest ally. Half of Poland was under Russian rule for centuries, and Russian troops were in Poland again from 1944 to 1992. 1.5 million Ukrainian refugees are in Poland - more than in any other country. Ukrainians are very eager to ensure cordial relations with Poland. Poland says it cannot have its farmers undercut by Ukrainian grain. As it is very hard to export Ukrainian grain via the Black Sea, Ukraine is trying to sell more grain to its neighbors. Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria have all banned Ukrainian grain. They still allow Ukrainian grain to be shipped across their territory to other countries. Ukraine has taken a lawsuit to the World Trade Organization saying the ban breaks international obligations. Slovakia and Ukraine are negotiating a grain license system to allow small amounts of Ukrainian grain if Ukraine drops the lawsuit.
