On November 15 a Polish media outlet claimed that two Russian missiles hit Poland near the Ukraine border, killing two people. Poland called an emergency meeting of its security council. The government has not officially claimed that Poland was hit by Russian missiles. It could have been Ukrainian missiles designed to shoot down Russian missiles. The two types are very similar and can easily be confused. Several NATO countries have spoken in solidarity with Poland: the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The US has said the situation is very worrying. Hungary has remained circumspect as has Turkey: both of them buy a lot of Russian energy. If Poland was hit by Russian missiles it is unclear if this was accidental. Poland per capita has given more help to Ukraine than anyone else. Ukraine said that Poland was struck by Russia. November 15 saw Russia launch about 90 missiles and rockets at Ukraine to destroy civilian infrastructure. Moscow said that the incident in Poland was a provocation, implying that another country attacked Poland to blame it on Russia. NATO and the EU are examining the issue to see if Russian missiles really hit Ukraine. Poland could invoke Article 5 of the NATO Charter if this is the case, requiring all NATO countries to come to its aid.
