Executive Summary The Costa Rican presidential race is heating up, with dark horse leftist candidate José María Villalta advancing. A Unimer poll for the daily La Nación, published in early December, gave Villalta 23.7% of the votes by voters who had made up their minds, while government candidate Johnny Araya had 18.3%, and rightist Otto Guevara 16.7%.But a new poll by CID-Gallup, published December 17th by the daily La República, put Araya in the lead (with 37%), Villalta second (with 32%) and Guevara again third, with 15%.As polling volatility suggests, anything could happen in the Febru...
