With 59.05% of the votes counted in his favor and the recognition of his victory by his adversaries Abel Martinez and Leonel Fernández, President Luis Abinader has been reelected in the first round. So far, only 44% of the votes have been counted. The total vote obtained so far by Leonel Fernández, candidate of the Fuerza del Pueblo, is 27.03%, while Abel Martinez, candidate of the PLD, obtained 10.7% of the counted votes. The first to acknowledge the reelection victory was Abel Martínez, who called Luis Abinader to wish him luck in the new mandate and expressed, "Count on us for everything that is favorable for the country, you will always have our support." Leonel Fernandez also called President Luis Abinader and wished him success in his new administration. After the opposition acknowledged his victory, President Abinader addressed the country and his party's supporters, stating, "I will not be a candidate again. It is my word, my commitment, and it will be part of my legacy to the Dominican Republic." He indicated that he will promote a constitutional reform to prevent the continuity in power from depending on the personal whim of the sitting president. President Abinader called on the political parties to, starting tomorrow, continue building "the country that we deserve, that Dominican Republic that awaits us and that wishes to show itself to the entire world as joyful, hospitable, productive, vigorous and democratic." Regarding the results of the congressional elections, the vote count has been slower, although it seems that the PRM will also be the big winner.
