On November 20, in a widely expected result, the president won another term. Exit polls show him winning at least 82% of the vote. The official tally has not been announced. Turnout was only 69%. Some Kazakhs see no point in voting because the result is a foregone conclusion. The constitution was changed earlier in 2022. This limits Tokayev to one more term: i.e., he has just this one. The question arises: who will take over when he retires?
