On October 11 Tajikistan announced that President Emomali Rahmon was re-elected with 91% of the vote. The presidential term is 7 years. 4 virtual unknowns ran against him and garnered almost no media attention. The media is entirely state controlled. Turnout was 855. The economy is suffering badly due to coronavirus. Tajikistan is the poorest former Soviet country. Many of its people are guest workers in Russia. Large numbers of them have been laid off and remittances from them were important to the economy. Rahmon has been in office since 1992. He changed the constitution to allow himself an unlimited number of terms. The 68 old is obese and rumored to be ill. The president's son Rustam Emonali is Speaker of the Senate. Videos have been published showing ballot stuffing.
