President Poroshenko deprives Mikheil Saakashvili Ukrainian citizenship

It seems that silent summer has ended. Yesterday State migration service of Ukraine reported that President Petro Poroshenko deprived Ukrainian citizenship Mikheil Saakashvili, ex-president of Georgia and currently leader of opposition party ‘Movement of new forces’. The decision was justified with some false data that Mikheil Saakashvili indicated in his documents when obtaining the citizenship. However, in essence the decision was apparently political. Elections are coming. Social nets responded with a wave of righteous anger comparing the case with Saakashvili with imprisonment of Yulia Tymoshenko in 2011 when ex-president Victor Yanukovitch was removing his potential political rivals. In fact, current process is very similar to those events. The first target of Poroshenko was Andriy Sadovyy, mayor of Lviv city and leader of parliamentary party Samopomitch (Self-help). Lviv faced a problem with garbage storage. The only garbage landfill at the city was closed due to its emergence stance while new place for storing garbage is not available within the Lviv territory. The problem could be solved only through central government leverages. But President Office blocked any ways for solutions and uses the story to destroy reputation of Andriy Sadovyy. Now, Poroshenko decided to solve problem with Saakashvili hoping it will pass smoothly during silent holidays’ season. In fact, this decision is quite strange given that Mikheil Saakashvili is not popular at all.
