President Ramaphosa ushers a new era in South Africa

A few minutes ago,President Ramaphosa delivered his first State of Nation Address (SONA), emphasizing the dawn of a new era, an era of hope and reconstrution. He committed himself and his incoming government to ethical leadership, a departure from his predecessor, and reversion to the type of leadership demonstrated by Nelson Mandela. As South Africa is set to celebrates the centenary of Mandela's birth, Ramaphosa invited all South African to follow the ethics and service-orientation of Mandela.Beyond the emotional and political rhetorics, President Ramaphosa assured the nation that :Corruption will be rooted out, and the culprits will be identified and the full force of the law will be applied. To this end, an urgent change will be introduced in the leadership of the National Prosecuting Agency, and the SA Revenue Services.The Cabinet will be down-sized and soon a Cabinet reshuffle will be announced.A new era of closer business-government-labour collaboration will commence. A sharp focus will be placed on youth job creation, apprenticeship, traineeship, and other measures to provide the unemployed youth opportunities for participation in the economy.All State-Owned-Enterprises (SOEs) will be restructured, and governance and operations will be re-arranged to root out corruption and poor governance.Law enforcement agencies will be given full scope to act without fear and favour.The outstanding mining sector policies will be resolved in consultation with the mining companies so as to revive the industry.Likewise a number of other policy uncertainties will be removed speedily.Free tertiary eduction will be introduced subject to a means-test.The roll-out of the National He...
