Presidential Debates at the National Olympic Stadium

As soon as exit-polls were released on Sunday, there has unfolded a discussion whether Zelenskiy will go to the debate or will skip them.The point is that the presidential race frontrunner Volodymyr Zelenskiy appeared to be a poor public speaker. It was a shocking finding for many Ukrainians. People used to see a talented actor who pours witty jokes on TV shows. And it was a real cognitive dissonance to see ramble speeches of real Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Poroshenko team promptly got the point and started massaging the issue of compulsory public debate. On Sunday they have launched a flash-mob “Demand Debates”. Yesterday Volodymyr Zelenskiy responded with a really cool video clip inviting Poroshenko to debate openly at the National Olympic Stadium, the largest stadium of the country.Poroshenko accepted the challenge.Potentially it’s a good chance for Poroshenko to demonstrate his superiority over Zelenskiy in understanding the key problems of the country and emphasize miserable speaking skills of the actor. However, we should keep in mind that Zelenskiy is a showman and he selected the stadium as a place of debate to make a show. What's more, Zelenskiy is supported exactly because he is fresh for politics. So we should not rule out his supporters just ignoring his potentially poor performance at the debates.
