On October 6 demonstrators stormed Government House in the capital. Former President Atambaev was rescued from the National Security Building where he was a prisoner. National Security personnel were overwhelmed by the numbers of protesters and there was no violence. Police were demonstrating against the election which they said was rigged. They demanded the resignation of President Jeenbekov. Police attempts to disperse crowds were unavailing. 120 people have been injured but non one has been killed. The protesters wanted Jeenbekov to resign and elections to be rerun. In the parliamentary elections two pro-Jeenbekov parties triumphed. Atambaev and Jeenbekov both have a good relationship with Moscow. The two men were allies but then fell out. Atambaev is serving an 11 year sentence for illegally freeing a gangster from jail. Opposition parties have spoken out against the storming of buildings. Mobile phone connections have been down sometimes: presumably cut by the government. In 2005 and 2012 there were revolutions in Kyrgyzstan. We might be in a pre-revolutionary situation again.
