Putin meets Hungarian PM in China

On October 17 Putin arrived in Beijing for a Belt and Road Initiative conference. 28 national leaders were there. Putin met Orban. The head of the gas company Gazprom and the nuclear power agency Rosatom also attended the meeting. Hungary has the best relations with Russia of any EU country. Hungary has secured exemptions from sanctions on Russia and buys a lot of Russian oil and gas. Orban said he did not want a confrontation with Russia. Hungary is very skeptical about Ukraine's joining NATO or the EU. There is a Hungarian minority in Ukraine. Some people in other EU states are asking why their leaders are not putting the national interest ahead of that of Ukraine.
