Renda Brasil’s new format under discussion

The format of the Renda Brasil program remains undefined. According to information published by the newspaper O Globo, the Ministry of the Economy’s proposal would be to change the rules for salary bonuses to better focus the benefit among the poorest workers, in addition to cutting expenses.
The government’s initial idea is to approve Renda Brasil by December. However, due to uncertainty about its sources of financing, the Planalto Palace is beginning to admit the possibility that the new basic income program might not be approved this year. If this impasse is not resolved, the government could extend the emergency aid of R$ 600 until the beginning of 2021.
