Ricardo Martinelli (via his alter ego José Raúl Mulino) leads the polls by a wide margin

Today, the newspaper La Prensa published the latest presidential survey, in which José Raúl Mulino leads voter preferences with 26%, followed by a technical tie among candidates Ricardo Lombana (10.8%) of the MOCA party, Martin Torrijos with the Popular Party (10.8%), and Rómulo Roux (10.2%), leading the Cambio Democrático and Panameñismo alliance. The independent candidate Zulay Rodríguez, a populist, scores 6.7%, and José Gabriel Carrizo, representing the government alliance, lags with 6.5%. The last two places are held by Maribel Gordón, a socialist, with 1.9%, and the independent Melitón Arrocha with 1.8%. The survey revealed that 19.6% of people are undecided about whom to vote for, and 5.8% indicated that none of the options appeal to them. Two more surveys will be published before the elections on May 5th. This debate will be participatory and involve young people (18 to 35 years old), who will ask questions of the candidates. This morning, José Raúl Mulino saidin an interview that he will not attend the second presidential debate. In Panama, there have been two candidates who have not attended debates and have won elections: Mireya Moscoso and Laurentino Cortizo (the current president). I believe these debates do not influence the election results (the candidate with the most voter preferences does not participate in them).
