Ruling by European Court of Justice ruling threatens oil and gas supplies to the EU

On September 11 the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled that Gazprom will have limited access to Opal. Opal is a natural gas pipeline in Germany that is linked to Nord Stream which supplies gas to several EU countries. Germany wants Gazprom to be allowed to supply more gas whereas Poland does not. Nonetheless it appears as though Denmark is going to approve the final phase of Nord Stream 2 being built in Danish waters.The Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said that this might queer the pitch for gas negotiations between Russia, Ukraine and the EU. Ukraine gets some of its gas from Russia. Due to Nord Stream Russian supplies to the EU will soon be able to bypass Ukraine. This is very bad news for Ukraine.
