Russia allows Kazakh oil through

On July 11 a Russian court ruled that the 30-day bank on unloading Kazakh oil is illegal. Relations between the two former Soviet republics had been soured by this. Now Kazakhstan will have to pay a mere USD 3,000 fine instead. On July 5 the President of Kazakhstan said that his country would find export routes that bypass Russia. There is a 1,500 km pipeline from Kazakhstan to Novorossiysk Terminal. Russia stopped processing Kazakh oil there due to alleged breaches of environmental regulations. That was the third such interruption of Kazakh oil export at the the terminal in 2022. Pundits say that Russian courts are not independent. The court blocked Kazakh oil exports in a political move to penalize Kazakhstan for being unsupportive of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Kazakhstan does not recognize Luhansk and Donetsk as independent countries. Russia is disappointed at Kazakhstan's neutrality. The Kazakh language is being raised in status in Kazakhstan as Russian diminishes. The Kazakh language is transitioning to the Latin alphabet. This is all probative of waning Russian influence in the country.
