Russia and Ukraine exchange children

On April 24 the Russian Children's Rights Commissioner said that Russia would return 29 children to Ukraine in exchange for Ukraine giving Russia back 19 children. Maria Lvova Belova, who announced the deal, was indicted by the International Criminal Court for child abduction in 2023. Qatar brokered the agreement. It has often been Gulf Arab countries that have mediated exchanges of prisoners. Moscow claimed that Ukraine and Russia discussed this face to face after Qatar arranged the negotiations. Ukraine stated that 29 children will come home via Qatar. It did not mention that Ukraine gave back Russian children. Kyiv claims 19 000 children were abducted by Russia and only 400 have been given back. Russia said it has not abducted any but has moved some for their own safety.
