Russia claims Ukraine is raiding across the border

On March 2 Russia's TASS news agency said that a small Ukrainian Army unit crossed the frontier and shot civilians. These fighters were mostly in civilian clothes. Russia has published photos and videos which purport to show Ukrainians holding flags near Bryansk. Some of these images have been geolocated to places in western Russia. Streetview confirms the locations of these images. A group called the Russian Volunteer Corps (RVK) is alleged to be fighting for Ukraine. The RVK wants to overthrow Putin. President Putin has denounced the attackers as Nazis and terrorists. His reaction has been strong considering the very small scale of the attacks. It would seem that Moscow wants to overemphasize the significance of the attacks. Some speculate that the attacks are in fact a false flag by Russia because these are justificatory of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The RVK wore yellow tape to identify themselves as on the Ukrainian side. The yellow tape is thought to be suspicious because there would be no need to wear it as there is no one else on the Ukrainian side in Russia. The FSB has made numerous statements about the RVK attack. Ukraine said the RVK story is a lie. On February 23 Ukraine said that Russia was planning a false flag attack.
