Russia delivers weapons to the Central African Republic

On September 27 Russia announced it has delivered more weapons to the Central African Republic (CAR). Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov explained that the CAR Government needed the arms to fight terrorism. The weapons were provided gratis but Russia will be granted mining rights in recognition of this. There are 175 Russian military trainers in CAR. CAR is a former French colony and until recently CAR looked to France for assistance. Since 2017 Russia has been assisting the government there. There is a Russian private military company called Vagner which is also active in CAR. Moscow does not want to talk about that. CAR is an example of Russia's growing economic and political expansion in Africa. CAR is one of the poorest countries in the world but it has diamonds.
