Russia downs US drone

On March 14 a Russian fighter jet downed a US MQ 9 drone over the Black Sea. The US said the Russians had been flying irresponsibly close to the drone in international airspace. Russia said its aircraft did nothing to the drone. Ukraine said Russia's action proves that Russia is taking action against the US. Kyiv said that this is symptomatic of Russia raising tensions again and again, seeing what it can get away with. The head of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said that Russia is striving to retrieve the wreckage of the drone. It will help Russian intelligence if it can study the drone. The US is also trying to get the wreck. Patrushev said that the drone incident was demonstrative of the US's participating in the war.  Washington DC maintains the drone was on a standard mission and the Russian plane clipped the drone. However, the US said the drone was this rendered unflyable so the US decided to make it crash. The US flies drones over the Black Sea all the time. Russia often flies planes to intercepts. It is thought that the US and Russia are discretely discussing things through back channels.
