Russia hit by more drones

On August 1 drones attacked Moscow and hit an office in the financial center. Vnukovo Airport was forced to stop take offs and landings for hours because of the presence of drones. Russia said it brought down 3 drones by shooting them or by electronic warfare. There were also attempted drone attacks on Russian naval vessels in the Black Sea. Ukraine has not claimed either the attacks in Moscow or the Black Sea but it is almost certainly behind them. This is the second attack on Moscow in 3 days. On July 31 Zelensky said Ukraine was taking the war to the enemy. Putin says this is a special military operation not a war. But it is difficult to say life is carrying on as normal. The first drone strike on Moscow was on May 3. Since then they have become more frequent and larger. However, they have inflicted negligible damage. Russia claims not a single person has been killed by a drone in Moscow. Muscovites do not seem too worried. Moscow has endured far worse in terms of bombs and hostage incidents in the last 20 years. Ukraine seems to be using Ukrainian-made drones in Russia.That is because Ukraine's Western backers have forbidden Ukraine from using Western-supplied weapons inside Russia. Ukrainian-made drones are rudimentary and relatively easy to bring down. On August 1 a missile strike hit housing in Zelensky's hometown. Ukraine said 6 civilians were killed. On August 1 Russia said the drone strikes on Moscow show Ukraine's desperation. Ukraine has retaken only 300 square kilometers of land in its counter-offensive since June 2023.
