Russia holds nuclear drills

On October 26 the Kremlin said that strategic nuclear deterrence forces are holding drills. Putin was shown supervising them from a control room as they drills took place in the Barents Sea and the Russian Far East. The Defense Minister said this simulated a massive nuclear attack to retaliate against an enemy nuclear strike. Ballistic and cruise missiles were launched. Long-range aircraft was also involved. The drills usually take place once a year. 2022 is unique in having them taking place twice. On October 25 the US said it was informed the drills would happen. On October 26 Putin repeated the widely ridiculed claims that Ukraine is preparing a dirty bomb. He told heads of CIS special services that Ukraine has openly said it wants nuclear weapons.
