Russia moves nukes in a warning to the West

Western analysts said on October 3 that Russia has moved nuclear-capable assets. On September 30 the US Pentagon said it had not observed any movements of Russian nuclear forces. The US was fairly relaxed about Russian nuclear rhetoric. On October 2 an Italian newspaper reported that NATO observed a Russian special mission submarine, Belgorod, putting to sea. Belgorod was launched in 2022 and is the longest in the world. It can carry a nuclear-armed drone. NATO believes that Belgorod is in the Arctic Sea conducting tests. On October 2 pro-war Russian blogger Rybar said they cited trains carrying military equipment that it believed to contain a nuclear unit. It is perhaps surprising that Russia did not stop Rybar revealing the movements of this train. Does Moscow want the world to know that it is readying nuclear forces? Konrad Muzyka, a Polish analyst, said the convoy contained nuclear munitions. Rybar published a video of the train but it does not seem to show that the nuclear forces are being readied for an attack. Muzyka's assessment is that Russia is demonstrating to the West that it will use nukes for the defense of Russia. The trouble is that Russia now considers four Ukrainian districts to be part of its homeland.
