On August 1 Russian soldiers practiced placing dummy warheads on launchers. Russian state media was keen to broadcast Iskander M operational tactical missile systems performing the third stage of the drills. The Iskander M is for short-range nuclear and conventional missiles. The Kremlin said that this prepares the military to use non-strategic nuclear arms. These would be electronic launches. Understandably, details about most Russian military exercises are secret. But it is revealing that Moscow really wants the world to know about these drills. The aim is to scare Western countries into a detente and reduce arms to Ukraine. In July 2024 Russian Forces performed drills using Yars mobile missile launchers. These warheads are 6 times more potent than those used at Hiroshima. The crews moved over 100 km and practiced concealing their weapons.
