Russia preparing bomb shelters

On November 26 Russian media reported that the government is inspecting bomb shelters. Bomb shelter signs are going up on streets particularly in the Belgorod Region, which borders Ukraine. In Rostov-on-Don, shelter signs have been erected. Civil defense is being put into a high state of readiness. Bomb shelters are being repaired. Those that are functional shall be made available in the case of need. In April the head of the Security Council instructed that a list of bomb shelters in regions adjacent to Ukraine be prepared. In November 2022 Putin held the first in-person Security Council since the war began. He asked about civil defense preparedness. Belgorod has sustained numerous Ukrainian attacks. But even in Siberia, 3,000 bomb shelter signs have gone up in Novokuznetsk. It is estimated that there are 16,500 bomb shelters in Russia but many are secret. It seems that Russia does not believe the war will end soon. Moreover, it is indicative that they believe there could be many more Ukrainian attacks. A widening of the war cannot be ruled out.
